Presentation

The 77th Concours de Genève was dedicated to Flute & String Quartet and took place from 23 October - 4 November 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland. The competition was open to candidates born after 4 November 1993. Candidates had until April 20th to apply.

The Audience Prize is awarded by the spectators of the Final Rounds. The finalist who receives the most ballots is the winner of this prize.

YOUNG AUDIENCE PRIZE: CHF 1,000.-

The Young Audience Prize is awarded by a group of students from public and private schools in Geneva, having formerly received a specific training. Their eval- uation asses the two Final Rounds.

STUDENTS' PRIZE: CHF 1,000.-

The Students’ Prize is awarded by a group of students from the Faculty of Music and the Department of Musicology of the University of Geneva, who evaluate both Finals. It is integrated in their official curriculum. The Students’ Prize is offered by Ms. & Mr. Hervieu-Causse.

ROSE-MARIE HUGUENIN PRIZE : CHF 10, 000.–

This prize is awarded to all flute laureates and gives them the opportunity to benefit from a personal grant to help them realise their artistic projects. The grant is managed by the Competition.

PAUL STREIT PRIZE : CHF 3,000.–
Judy Lee, 18 years old
The Paul Streit Special Prize is awarded to a particularly deserving flutist.

ARTS SOCIETY PRIZE CHF 3,000.–

The Arts Society Prize is awarded by the Jury to one of the three finalists in the flute competition and consists of a chamber music concert organised by the Société des Arts as part of its mentoring
programme. The winner will perform in 2024 with with an experienced professional musician chosen by agreement between the Competition and the Société des Arts.

SOUFFLE PRIZE CHF 1,500.−
Elizaveta Ivanova, 26 years old
The “Souffle” Prize is awarded by the Committee of the “Souffle d'Ici et d'Ailleurs” Association to one of the three finalists of the flute competition and consists in a recital given as part of the “Journée de la Flûte”, organised within two years of the Competition.

ORCHESTRE DE LA SUISSE ROMANDE PRIZE
Mario Bruno, 26 years old
Awarded by the musicians of the orchestra. Consists in a concert with the OSR.

NB: Works chosen for the preselection round may be performed again during the competition. The piece at free choice is meant to highlight candidates’ musical personality. Recording all movements of the piece at free choice is not mandatory.

I. Solo Recital (50-60 min): 45% of the evaluation

Free programme. The repertoire of the Solo Recital is at the free choice of the candidate. It must be constructed as a concert and explained by a programme note. The repertoire can include solo pieces and pieces with piano.

NB: The Solo Recital should not exceed 60 minutes including the entrances/exits of the stage and the possible pauses.

II. Semi-Final: Chamber Music (approx. 45 min): 35% of the evaluation

Career Development

The Concours de Genève offers an ambitious career development programme, providing precious support and advice to help boost laureates' careers

CONCERTS
In addition to the official prizes, laureates benefit from two years of management from the concert agency Sartory Artists. The key to a series of performances, allowing them to take their first steps in Swiss and international concert venues.

CONCERT TOUR
During the two years following their prize, laureates are offered an international concert tour. A great way to promote the Competition abroad and a unique opportunity for prize-winners to establish an international reputation

WORKSHOPS
Each year, the Concours de Genève offers a Prizewinners Workshop. During one week, participants can take part in a series of workshops comprising different subjects, such as performance, health, career management, image and social media.
