Biography

Frédéric Kirch began his musical education with the violin and the trombone, before turning to the viola. He then joined the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon, where he studied with Jean-Philippe Vasseur. Soloist of the Orchestre national de Bordeaux, in 1996 he was appointed principal viola of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. An eclectic musician, he performs with baroque ensembles such as the Chapelle royale, while exploring contemporary repertoire with the Ensemble Contrechamps. Since 2008, he has been Professor at the Haute École de musique de Lausanne.
