Prizewinners Workshop

2-8 May 2020

EVENT POSTPONED / COVID19: In view of the current sanitary situation surrounding the Covid19 epidemic, and in order to be able to organize our annual Prizewinners Workshop in the best conditions possible, we have decided to postpone this event until next Autumn. The new dates are 19.09-26.09.2020

One week of dialogue and exchange with prizewinners of the Geneva Competition and professionals of the music world. Through case studies and individual examples, we will explore the many challenges inherent to the life of a young musician.

Over the years, we have noticed that our laureates often confront us with questions concerning very practical aspects of their careers, questions that it is not always easy to answer.

  • How should one negotiate a contract?
  • What is the best way to manage one’s virtual image and social networks?
  • What must one take into account whilst doing a recording?
  • Which media and broadcasting channels should be privileged?
  • How can one improve one’s stage presence ?
  • How can one prevent health problems linked to the job of a musician?

During the week-long workshop, professionals of the music world will seek to answer these questions (and certainly many more), providing individual advice and coaching.

At the end of the week, participants will give a performance reserved to the members of the Geneva Competition’s Friends Association. A concert, which also serves as a practical case study.

Participants will also have the chance to meet personalities of the Geneva music scene. A great opportunity to establish important contacts for the future.

The programme also includes going the theatre and to the opera, this time not as a performer, but as a spectator. Something that busy musicians do not always take the time to do!

Since the second edition (2018), the group includes three students from the “Haute école de musique Genève” who are completing a Masters in specialised music performance as soloist. These students, whose profile is quite similar to our laureates, will benefit from the same training all week long.

An exciting project that we are thrilled to be repeating again this year!
