Isabelle Masset, France - member of the 2016 voice jury

Isabelle Masset is Associate Artistic Director of the Opéra National de Bordeaux. She was born in Montpellier, where she pursued vocal studies at the Music Conservatory. Ms. Masset was very close to the renowned French opera singer Régine Crespin, who inspired her throughout her career.

In 1978, she joined the famous impresario Hilbert in Paris, where she worked alongside some of the world’s greatest artists (Karl Boehm, Birgit Nilson, Leonie Rysanek, Barbara Hendricks, Jessye Norman). At sixty years old, Isabelle Masset is now recognized as one of the foremost professionals of her field. Having worked for the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels, the Opéra National de Bordeaux, the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy and the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, she returned to Bordeaux in 2005 as Associate Artistic Director.

Isabelle Masset is now frequently invited to serve as jury member for major international competitions. In July 2005, she was promoted Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres. On December 16th, 2010, Alain Juppé inducted her into the French National Order of Merit.
