Biography
Born in Hiroshima, Toshio Hosokawa is one of the most significant Japanese composers of his time. He has written around 200 works, including orchestral works, concertos, chamber music and operas, and has been a member of the Berlin Academy of Arts since 2001. He has received the Japan Foundation Award (2018), the Goethe Medal (2021), the Berkeley Japan Prize (2023) and the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award (2025). He is Artistic Director of the Takefu International Music Festival and the Suntory Hall Programme for Music Composition. His recent works focus on nature and often combine European and traditional Japanese instruments.

Events
Joint final for the Composition and Conducting Competitions: the three finalist conductors will, by drawing lots, conduct one of the three finalist works for symphony orchestra from the Composition Competition, performed by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
