Milica Djordjević
Member of the Composition Jury 2024
Biography
Milica Djordjević (*1984) began her composition studies in Belgrade, where she also studied electronic music and music production, then went to Strasbourg and to the IRCAM in Paris, before finally completing her postgraduate studies in Berlin at the HfM Hanns Eisler. Her already extensive work, which is performed by leading soloists, ensembles and orchestras, includes pieces for solo instruments, chamber music works in various ensembles, vocal works and large orchestral compositions. Natural sciences, literature and art play an important role in her work.
Milica Djordjević has the courage to let music be pure energy. And this music is powerful. Passionate. Dynamic. Disturbing. Brutal. Raw. Physical. Versatile, rich, sometimes fragile, often explosively charged. And very honest. And that's what it's all about: nothing artificial - energy and substance directly. »This music jumps right in your face.« Milica Djordjević has received numerous high-ranking prizes and awards for her works, including the Claudio Abbado Composer Prize from the Berlin Philharmonic (2020), the Composer Prize from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation (2016) and the Belmont Prize. Contemporary Music Prize (2015). Her first monographic CD received the German Record Critics' Prize in 2017.
