Biography

Having graduated with first prizes for oboe and chamber music from the CNSM in Paris with J.L. Capezzali, Jacques Tys and David Walter, Nora Cismondi perfected her musical studies with Maurice Bourgue. A winner of many international competitions, including Printemps de Prague (2001), Toulon (2002), ARD Munich (2003) and Sony Music Foundation Tokyo (2006), she regularly appears as a soloist in major European venues. She was nominated “Révélation Classique de l’Adami” in 2005 at Midem in Cannes.

After seven seasons at the Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris, Nora Cismondi joined the Orchestre National de France in 2006 as Principal Oboe. She is a regular guest of prestigious orchestras (Munich BR, London LSO, Santa Cecilia in Rome) and renowned ensembles, such as the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra or the European Chamber Orchestra, allowing her to perform under conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Valéry Gergiev, Claudio Abbado and Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

After earning her teaching degree in 2006, she has regularly given masterclasses across Europe and Asia and in 2012, was appointed the oboe class at the Conservatoire supérieur de Paris. In 2018, she was named Assistant Professor at the CNSM in Paris and was appointed Principal Oboe of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

In addition to Geneva, Nora Cismondi is to sit on juries of international competitions, such as IDRS 2021 and the John and Evelyn Barbirolli Competition on the Isle of Wight in 2023.
