René Massis, France 

René Massis studied voice at the Conservatoire de Lyon whilst pursuing a degree at the Arts Faculty of the University of Lyon. He then spent seven years in Milan, perfecting his technique and studying the Italian repertoire.

During his career, René Massis performed a vast repertoire of mainly French (Faust, Carmen, Les Pêcheurs de Perles, L’Heure Espagnole, Werther) and Italian (Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Pasquale, La Favorita, La Traviata, Don Carlo, Rigoletto, Falstaff, I Vespri Siciliani, Ernani, Otello, Un Ballo in Maschera, Simon Boccanegra, La Boheme, Madame Butterfly, André Chénier) works. He also performed Wozzeck and La Khovanchtchina.

He has appeared in virtually all French theatres, and in a number of important European venues (Milan Scala, Operas of Geneva, Lausanne, Frankfurt, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Bergamo, Florence, Rome, Naples, Palermo, Turin, Barcelona, Madrid, Santiago de Chile etc.).

After giving up his career as a singer, René Massis spent five years as Artistic Delegate at the Opéra national de Lyon. He has been Director of the artistic agency “Agence Massis Opéra” since 2006.
