Biography

Born in the Netherlands, Ernest Rombout studied with Heinz Holliger in Freiburg then with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Maurice Bourgue.

A professor of oboe at the Utrecht Conservatory then at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, he has taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 2015.

He leads a rich career as a soloist, performing in the major festivals and playing with the best orchestras. He has made numerous recordings for television and radio. He is a member of the Nieuw Ensemble Amsterdam and the Atlas Ensemble (mixing music from Europe, the Middle East and the Far East.
