Biography

Hanurij Lee (b. 2006, Seoul) is a composer studying at the Korea National University of Arts. His work focuses on exploring sonic relationships between instruments through their inherent possibilities and restricted gestures rather than conveying explicit concepts. His music has been presented at Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, Verbier Festival, Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival, and Initiative Neue Musik OWL.

“The Stuff series originates from an interest in the endlessly repetitive structures of Khrushchyovka apartments and the gradual erasure of individual sensation within them.
However, Stuff #1 (Hymne pour le Velu qui hoche la tête) departs slightly from the dry and rigid atmosphere of the previous works, instead emerging from images of dust, fur, and a shaggy figure subtly nodding its head. Repetition remains central, but here it functions less as a structural device than as a kind of sensory residue accumulating inside an aging interior.”
