Yu-Ying Chang
2nd Prize percussion 2009
Percussionist Yu-Ying Chang holds degrees from the CNSMD Lyon and the HfM Karlsruhe, and is currently assistant professor at National Kaohsiung Normal University, Chiayi University, and Tainan University of Technology. A prize-winner at the Claude Giot International Vibraphone Competition (France), the Luxembourg International Percussion Competition (both Third Prize), and the 64th Geneva International Music Competition (Second Prize), she is recognised as a Yamaha Artist through the My Yamaha, My Music programme, and is a member of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM).
Together with percussionist Ya-Hsin Cheng, she co-founded the NanaFormosa Percussion Duo, an ensemble that has performed across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Their debut releases — Lueur and the crossover album Fractals (2014) — were followed by Moon Inside (Universal Music, 2019), which received three nominations at the 31st Golden Melody Awards. The duo continues to push at the boundaries of the concert format: their 2023 video concert The First Ode for the Red Cliff was awarded the Music First Prize at the Quanta Cloud Stage Award, and their 2024 cross-disciplinary theatre work The Day in Gad-Avia wove together AI systems and acoustic resonators to explore local soundscapes in an immersive dialogue between reality and imagination.
