Lorenzo Soulès

1st Prize piano 2012

Born in Lyon within a family of musicians, Lorenzo Soulès started the piano at the early age of three. Shortly after, his family moved to Saint Malo and when he was 9 years old, he entered the CRR of Paris in the class of Olivier Glardon. He graduated four years later having won a great number of prizes. A very young age indeed to have to decide on the direction of one’s musical training! Choosing not to follow the usual itinerary (CNSDM in Paris), Lorenzo continued his studies with Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Tamara Stefanovich, who were both professors in Cologne, a city that he moved to at the age of thirteen. During the same period, he took lessons with Alicia de Larrocha with whom he worked on the complete Ibéria by Albeniz.

It is in 2012, at 20 years old, that he decided to enter his first international competition, choosing to participate in the Geneva International Music Competition. Just as discreet in everyday life as he is a sensitive and inspired musician, he obtained absolute unanimity from the jury and the audience, winning First Prize, but also nearly all special prizes: “Coup de Coeur Breguet” Prize, Audience Prize, Young Audience Prize and “Air France KLM” Prize. The “Coup de Coeur” Prize, awarded by renowned Swiss watchmaker Breguet, gave him the opportunity to record his first CD (Nascor, Nov. 2012 – Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Scriabine). The recording received positive reviews and was awarded a ffff by Telerama and selected as « Le Choix de France Musique ».

During the 2016/17 season, he performed at the Gasteig in Munich, in Milano, as well as in Paris at the Louis Vuitton Fondation. He also participated in many festivals, including Verso Traiettorie and the Festival Messiaen au Pays de la Meije.
