Didier Schnorhk
Secretary-General
In his position as Secretary-General, Didier Schnorhk has directed the Geneva International Music Competition since 1999. He is responsible for handling the administrative and financial aspects of the Geneva International Music Competition and also coordinates its artistic standards. As the spokesman for the Competition, he represents its image and directs the artistic side of the Concert organized by the Friends of the Competition.
He graduated as a cellist from the Geneva Conservatoire and embarked upon a career as an independent musician, performing in several ensembles in Geneva (Suisse Romande Orchestra, Geneva Chamber Orchestra) as well as in Lausanne (Sinfonietta) before becoming the Interim Director of the Collegium Academicum Orchestra in Geneva. He became Assistant Artistic Director of the Geneva Chamber Orchestra in 1995. He also worked on several projects as an expert in written music, most notably for Expo 2002.
Formerly president of the Association of the Geneva Chamber Orchestra (1995-1997), Didier Schnorhk is currently Vice-President elect of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (FMCIM). He is also President of the Geneva Archipel Festival Committee, President of the Ensemble Vocal Genevois Séquences (Geneva) and President of the Arts, Music and Litterature Department of the Geneva National Institute.
He was born in Geneva in 1962 into a family of musicians (Roland Schnork, his father, is a retired trombonist from the Suisse Romande Orchestra, and his sister, Martine Schnorhk, plays the alto violin in various ensembles including the Geneva Chamber Orchestra). He hails from the Swiss Canton of Valais and has three children.
